CityHeart - Garden Place, Hamilton
Garden Place, Hamilton is a public space located right in the centre of the city, making itself a perfect candidate for the CityHeart revitalization project. The Council's commitment to the development of the city centre is aimed at expressing Hamilton's creativity and identity, creating safe places to which people are naturally drawn and the linkage of our gathering places through design as well as physicality.
ECC's extensive catalogue of commercial lighting enabled us to supply the new light fittings and layout for Garden Place. We've used one of our most popular products to achieve functionality and a visually pleasing design feel. iGuzzini Maxi Woodys and smaller spots used as pole top applications were perfect for this job.
Here's a few photos we took of the finished project...

New Arrivals - SLIDE
SLIDE, of Italy, joins the ECC family adding their range of lighting and furniture to our extensive catalogue.
SLIDE - "Lighting alone is not enough, because light can totally change the feel of the spaces in which we live. Enlightened use of light brings on emotions, sharpens the senses and aids communication as it favors dialogue with its positive ambiance. This is why all the SLIDE products are also light sources. An absolute minimum of wiring, simple to install, of clean and versatile design with a myriad of applications, in plastic materials which are both light and robust, basic forms which do not take themselves too seriously and plenty of colour; these are the guidelines SLIDE has chosen so as to create a special atmosphere with its lighting creations."

Italian Festival - Wellington
Buongiorno!
ECC had a fabulous day at the Westpac Stadium last Sunday when we displayed some of our extensive range of lighting and furniture focusing on 'all things Italian'. We were delighted with the great response received from all those who visited our stand.
One of our favorite parts were the special guest Sbandieratori Flag Wavers who entertained the crowd throughout the day.
A big thank you to Antonio Cacace from Bella Italia, who organised the festival and made us feel like part of the Italian family.

ECC at iGuzzini's International Training Course
iGuzzini Blog - Final Episode
After our final day with iGuzzini, the Kiwi contingent has some free time to "roam in Rome before making the long trip home."
We spent the day seeing the sights, visiting the famous "Pantheon" (twice - don't ask!), the "Trevi Fountain" and the "Coloseum" before settling in for a quick spot of shopping and a final Italian meal at "Granco" in central Rome.
We parted ways with Richard, who was bound for a family visit to London and Paul, who was flying later in the day. The "Three Amigos" boarded bound for a stop-off in Hong Kong before making the final leg home.
Home safe and sound Monday afternoon, back in the office Tuesday and it all seems like a distant memory!
Thanks again to all involved - our iGuzzini hosts, our traveling companions, and most of all to Mike for the fantastic opportunity to view the other side of the world!
We'll leave you with a few photos of some the lighter moments of our trip...

iGuzzini Blog #5
27.10.11
After an early morning start, we set off on a cross country bus trip from Recanati bound for Rome. This was to be our final day with iGuzzini, and we were joined by their representatives Igor, Cartia and Ezio. On arrival in Rome, we enjoyed a light lunch at "The Visconti Palace Hotel," our place of residence for the next two days, before being collected by bus to take a guided tour around the historical streets. Our tour guide, Marcia, explained the great history of Rome on route, while pointing out one famous monument after another. We then had the pleasure of being guided through the "Villa Borghese," housing incredible pieces of art and sculpture from famous artists such as Raffaello and Caravaggio. Following this, we were treated to an audience at "The Forum" (the ruins) with Grassia, the architect responsible for relighting the area, with the use of iGuzzini exterior light fittings. He took us through the thought processes and the final results achieved. Due to a storm the week before and the flooding that ensued, we were unable to see the full lighting project.
Our final destination for the day was dinner at "San Lorenzo" in the heart of central Rome, which was made all the more amazing by a chance meeting with the famous architect, Fuksas, who was dining there at the time. Kevin and Talia managed a photo and a quick word before he went on his way - a thrill to be sure!
We are to end our time with iGuzzini Friday morning feeling very privileged to have been involved with them over the past week. We can not thank iGuzzini and their staff enough for taking care of us and treating us to such amazing experiences one would not usually get the chance to. Special thanks to Carla and Igor for organizing the Kiwi contingent abroad and further thanks also to Cartia and Simone for taking their time to teach us about their products and projects in detail.
A final thanks to Mike Throburn for sending us on this fantastic journey, for without him this could not have been made possible, nor would we have maintained a longstanding relationship with iGuzzini without his leadership.
Our tour guide Marcia takes us through ancient Roman history.

After an incredible night out, looking at iGuzzini exterior light fixtures throughout their vast premises in the depth of night, the focus of day three, and the final day in Recanati, was on new interior fixtures from their 2011 range.
After an incredible night out, looking at iGuzzini exterior light fixtures throughout their vast premises in the depth of night, the focus of day three, and the final day in Recanati, was on new interior fixtures from their 2011 range.
We were first taken through a case study on Vedova in Venice, a moveable art gallery designed by Renzo Piano, and the challenges of lighting a moving art collection. We were shown also a case study on lighting sculpture, with views taken from many a walk of life, from Authors, to Artists, Opera Singers and many more.
Next, we were taken on an in depth look through the new range of "Reflex Easy LED," with numerous optics, LED modules and ideal situations for each, including energy saving calculations. We were then shown physical samples and installed models to showcase each variation discussed.
Before departing from iGuzzini headquarters, each attendee was given a Certificate of Participation and our final goodbyes were made before boarding the bus for Urbino. In this University town, an hour and a half from Recanati, we were treated to lunch and a guided tour through the "Palazzo Ducale," home of Frederico da Montefeltro, the lord of the city during the Renaissance. Famous for housing muses from Francesca, Laurana and Alberti, this incredible 365 room palace was indeed a sight to behold.
Our final destination for the day was dinner at "Kiro Kiro," where we indulged in fresh seafood and authentic Italian pizza. One final night in Recanati to enjoy before we board our bus early tomorrow, bound for Rome!

iGuzzini Trip Blog #3
25.10.11
Following a very late night (early morning!) after our dinner at "La Torre," an early start greeted our second day at iGuzzini.
We were introduced to new exterior products, of urban and street-lighting particularly, and taken through an in depth presentation of the "Crown," a fitting designed by Michele de Lucchi for the Royal Palace courtyard in Torino, Italy. Much was also shown and discussed on the growth of LED within urban environments, with consideration to energy savings and light optics removing light pollution, a linkage to marketing material of old. We were walked through the brand new showroom, linked to the conference facilities within the new building.
Before lunch, we were presented with a "lighting effects" presentation, incorporating case studies worldwide of particular interest to the effect discussed. After lunch, and a little free time in the afternoon, we were taken inland to Maserata where we enjoyed yet another fantastic, authentic Italian meal.
On our return home, we were taken back to iGuzzini for a workshop on exterior lighting, showcasing at night their new ranges discussed previously in the day, allowing us to see the fittings in the ideal light and environment (the very large car-park at iGuzzini!) and test their effects.
