Ingo Maurer + Compasso D'Oro

Ingo Maurer has been awarded with the Compasso D'Oro for International Lifetime Achievement.

Compasso D'Oro (The Golden Compass) is the first and most recognized award in the Industrial Design field. The prize aims to both acknowledge and promote quality in the field of industrial designs made in Italy.
The award originated in Italy in 1954 by the La Rinascente company from an original idea of Gio Ponti (one of the most significant Italian architects, industrial designers, furniture designers, artists and publishers of the twentieth century) and Alberto Rosselli.

The ECC Milan Report 2011 features some brilliant new products by Ingo Maurer released at Euroluce in Milan earlier this year. To view the Milan Report online click here.

Magis + Compasso D'Oro

Compasso D'Oro (The Golden Compass) has been awarded to Magis. The Golden Compass is awarded to the best Italian design products every 3 years.
Magis received the award for their Steelwood Chair, developed by the stars of French design Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. Steelwood is an elegant chair with a classic shape displaying a combination of two traditional materials: wood and steel plate. The steel plate back of the chair is the result of 9 stages of manufacturing, folding and bending the material.

Magis also recieved a nomination for the Piggyback table, designed by the brilliant young designer Thomas Heatherwick.
Piggyback is an extending table, or better, two rectangular tables of the same dimensions that look like a single table, when placed one on the other, while when separated, they are two tables that can be drawn near as one likes to obtain different configurations which are not possible with standard extending tables.

The award ceremony was held at the Pelanda Headquarter of MARCO (Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome). This was the 22nd edition of Compasso D'Oro.

ECC + designex

designex - the largest design, interiors, and lighting trade exhibition in New Zealand, co-located with buildnz and incorporating the country's most extensive fabric and soft furnishings galleria, was held from the 26th - 28th June this year at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland.

We loaned one of our decorative pendants out to Fisher & Paykal to use on the stand. The pendant turned out to be a great addition to the kitchen which they had put together and attracted a lot of attention itself!

Here are some photos from the show...
